🔹 Main Technical Features

⚙️ Four-channel monitoring
The module accepts up to four vibration/displacement inputs with approximately 50 kΩ input impedance for voltage-type signals.

📡 Multiple transducer types
Depending on configuration, compatible inputs include displacement, velocity, acceleration and other vibration transducers. Voltage input is specified as -10 V to +10 V and current input as 4 to 20 mA.

📊 Recorder outputs
Four recorder outputs are available and can be configured for 1–5 V, 4–20 mA, 0–5 V or 0–10 V signals.

🚨 Alarm monitoring
The module provides six configurable relay outputs. Alarm functions include DANGER, ALERT and NOT-OK conditions.

🔄 Phase marker option
When the /PM1 option is specified, the module supports one phase-marker/tachometer input and can handle rotational speeds up to 60,000 rpm.

🖥️ Analysis option
The /ALY option provides additional analysis functions including waveform, amplitude, phase and rotational-speed information.

🔹 Operating Procedure — How to Use

  1. 🔍 Check the module
Confirm the model marking, option codes and physical condition before installation. Pay particular attention to the suffixes such as /PM and /ALY because these options affect available functions.
  2. 🧩 Install the module
Install the VM-701B into a compatible VM-76□B instrument rack. The VM-701B occupies one of the monitor-module slots in the rack.
  3. 🔌 Connect the transducers
Connect the approved vibration or displacement transducers to the correct input terminals. Check signal polarity, shield connection and transducer power requirements before energizing the system.
  4. 📈 Configure measurement parameters
Set the required measurement type, monitoring range, filtering and alarm parameters according to the machinery application.
  5. 🚨 Configure alarms
Set DANGER and ALERT thresholds according to the equipment manufacturer’s protection philosophy and the actual machine operating condition.
  6. 🖥️ Connect monitoring software if required
For systems equipped with the appropriate communication and analysis modules, use the configured SHINKAWA software environment to view measured values and diagnostic information.
  7. Verify operation
Confirm that all required channels show normal status, recorder outputs are correct, alarm contacts operate correctly and phase-marker signals are detected when the option is installed.

🔹 Power-Up Sequence

⚠️ Because the VM-701B is a rack-mounted monitoring module, power should be applied through the compatible VM-7 rack power-supply arrangement rather than directly applying an arbitrary external voltage to the module.

Recommended commissioning sequence:

  1. 🔌 Confirm that the rack wiring is complete.
  2. 🔌 Confirm the primary power-supply module is installed correctly.
  3. 🔌 Confirm the secondary power-supply module if redundant power is being used.
  4. 🧩 Confirm the VM-701B is fully seated in its assigned slot.
  5. 🔗 Check transducer and signal wiring.
  6. ⚡ Energize the VM-7 rack power supply.
  7. 💡 Check the VM-701B status indicators.
  8. 📊 Confirm each measurement channel.
  9. 🚨 Verify alarm and NOT-OK indications.
  10. 🏭 Start the rotating machinery only after the monitoring system has reached a normal operating state.

The VM-7 rack provides dedicated primary and secondary power-supply positions, while the VM-701B is installed in the monitor-module positions.

🔹 Shutdown Sequence

  1. 🏭 Stop the monitored rotating machinery according to the plant operating procedure.
  2. 📊 Confirm that vibration and displacement values have returned to the expected shutdown condition.
  3. 🚨 Check that no abnormal alarm condition remains.
  4. 🖥️ Stop or disconnect the monitoring software if maintenance is required.
  5. ⚡ Remove rack power according to the plant’s electrical isolation procedure.
  6. 🔧 Wait for the equipment to become electrically safe before removing the VM-701B.
  7. 🧤 Use appropriate ESD protection when handling the module outside the rack.

Do not remove the module from an energized rack unless the applicable rack and plant maintenance procedure specifically permits live replacement.

🔹 Product Usage Notes

The VM-701B is primarily intended for rotating-machinery condition monitoring rather than general-purpose PLC analog input applications.

Typical monitored equipment includes:

• Steam turbines
