However, the new additive manufacturing technology recently developed by General Electric Company has overturned tradition. The company manufactures parts, especially precision parts, by adding materials layer by layer instead of cutting them, which significantly saves labor time and reduces the consumption of raw materials.
General Electric Company recently announced that its global research and development center has recently established an additive manufacturing laboratory. By adopting a new method of adding materials layer by layer, it replaces the traditional production method of cutting materials. Compared with traditional technology, this manufacturing technology of adding materials layer by layer can more flexibly manufacture parts of various shapes.
General Electric believes that the application of this technology will significantly reduce costs, and its application can also be extended to the manufacturing of expensive and safety demanding aviation and special industrial components.
It is reported that this technology has shown broad application space in fields such as ultrasound system components. For ultrasound equipment, the continuous progress of miniaturization technology for electronic components has significantly reduced the size, weight, and cost of imaging consoles. However, the cost of components such as ultrasonic probes is always high, as their manufacturing requires long-term cutting and polishing. Thanks to new additive manufacturing technology, the complex components on these probes can be formed in one go.
