The Shenhua Baotou Coal to Olefin Project was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission in December 2006 and is the world’s first coal to olefin industrial production demonstration base. Project construction scale: 1.8 million tons/year of coal to methanol, 600000 tons/year of methanol to olefins, 300000 tons/year of polyethylene, 300000 tons/year of polypropylene, 4 sets of 60000 cubic meters/hour spatiotemporal oxygen production, 3 sets of 480 tons/hour evaporation thermal power plants, as well as auxiliary production facilities and public works. At present, the project has been successfully launched and put into operation.
The Shenhua Baotou Coal to Olefins Project uses coal as raw material and uses coal water slurry pressurized gasification to prepare crude synthesis gas. After transformation and purification, refined synthesis gas that meets the requirements of methanol synthesis is obtained, and then crude methanol is synthesized. MTO grade crude methanol passes through the MTO device to generate ethylene and propylene, which are then polymerized to produce polyethylene and polypropylene products.
