IK340 Passive Backplane Embedded Modules


IK340 proposes a compact modular system with two slots based on a small industrial computer system (ICS) as an embedded Controller Side (CS) and a working Virtual Side (VS) connected in a distributed network via 10/100M Ethernet. Each VS is based on Windows and/or Linux, and each CS is based on RT-Linux and is used for data acquisition, monitoring and control. One of the two PCI slots is used for the DSP-based data acquisition and control module, while the other is used for expansion or additional Ethernet connections.

With the IK340 Fieldbus, both in hardware and software, an economical modular approach is used to achieve different application results. Today, most computers use conventional networks (10/100M Ethernet, FireWire, USB) as a standard connection. The fieldbus concept should be transparent for all electronic devices. Serial buses (USB, FireWire) are used for medium- and high-speed I/O connections. SCI interconnections support scalable multiprocessor clusters and high-performance modular real-time systems.

The compact CS of the IK340 was developed with a four-slot Micro PC chassis with a basic communication processor module that also includes dynamic and static memory chips and a set of standard interfaces (CAN bus, RS232 and others). A real-time operating system (RT-Linux, RTEMS) is available for data acquisition and control applications.Euro -card (3U format) is the international standard (IEEE 1101.1).The VME bus allows 16-bit data to be transferred in 3U format (6U boards support full data bus bandwidth). Compared with VME (3U), cPCI (3U) is a higher performance and more efficient system, while it is difficult to implement PC functions in VME architecture. 3U cPCI bus performance is better than 3U VME.
