Integrated Design and Verification of Control and Data Paths
Logical hierarchy
The control part directly uses behavior level RTL code, while the data path part uses structured RTL code exported from fully customized circuits to obtain a logical description of the entire module.
Vector validation can be used to compare with the results (trace files) validated using RTL (or C model).
Circuit hierarchy
The integration of circuit level control paths and data paths can be successfully completed using Composer.
For the acquisition of delayed information, the internal paths of the data path or control path are obtained through Hspice simulation and synthesis, respectively, to analyze whether there are critical paths inside.
The critical path between the data path and the control path can be submitted by the fully customized part to provide input/output delay information for the interface of the data path, which is the time required for the path to be within it. Using this information as external constraints, relevant modules are integrated (by module), and the integrated critical path will be obtained in the result file.
Layout level
To ensure consistency between the layout and the circuit, LVS verification is required. The gate level netlist of the control path will be imported into Composer, combined with the fully customized circuit of the data path to synthesize the total circuit, and the Spice netlist of the circuit level will be extracted for LVS verification. The tool used by LVS is the Calibre tool from Mentor Graphics.
